At United in Purpose, our mission is rooted in the belief that real change happens when voices are heard, systems are challenged, and people are united around a shared vision for equity and a sense of belonging. Our Programs
Empowering Women
Women in Health
The Empowering Refugee Women in Health Program provides crucial support to Somali Bantu women and girls in the Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps. We focus on delivering feminine hygiene products and comprehensive menstrual health education, equipping women with the resources and knowledge they need to maintain their health.
Swimming Lessons
Black Youth Swim
We are thrilled to announce that our Life After Drowning Program, in partnership with the YMCA, offers free swim lessons to Black, refugee and underserved youth. This program is a game-changer, allowing us to both challenge stereotypes and expand our efforts to promote water safety, fitness, and confidence among children. With this support, we are breaking down barriers and ensuring every child has the chance to learn essential swimming skills.
Equipping Future Leaders
Annual Back to School Bash
The Annual Back to School Bash Program goes beyond traditional educational support by hosting drives to raise funds and gather resources such as backpacks and school supplies. We collaborate with community partners who act as vendors, offering their services and promoting opportunities that might not be readily accessible to the communities we serve.
Empowering Moms & Sustainability Program
Nurturing the Nurturers. Our Empowering Moms and Sustainability Program empowers through support services.
We're excited to launch our first initiative focused on Empowering Mothers. We will be distributing diapers and wipes to mothers and expecting mothers in the Kent, Washington area. Registration details and more information is available at our Programs page.
United in Purpose's Empowerment and Sustainability program supports women and families through essential services that promote stability and growth. The program includes monthly diaper and wipes drives, personalized case management, home visits, translation and interpretation, and referrals to vital resources like housing and healthcare. The Power of Community
Celebrating Our Impact - 3rd Annual Back to School Bash.
Dedicated to empowering communities, United in Purpose strives to make a positive impact through various initiatives. Our third Annual Back to School Bash was a huge success, providing free haircuts, braids, food, music, games, and activities to children and families. We distributed over 500 backpacks, ensuring kids start the school year prepared and confident.
Black Youth Swimming Program Recap
This summer's Black Youth Swimming Program was all about growth, safetfy, and joy. Since registration, we've welcome 50 youth, with our youngest swimmer being just 3 years old. With having both our participation and engagement increased, our trained and professional instructors supported first-time swimmers and retuners in a safe and inclusive environment.
Beyond building confidence and community impact, our biggest success stories come from Mansur and Halima. Mansur overcame his fear in swimming after witnesing his uncle's first-hand traumatic near-drowing experience. Halima was hesitant to join at first but after having been provided with modest swimwear that reflect her values, she proudly splashed through her lessons with dignity and unwaivering confidence.
These two swimmers, and their journey, among other participants, are why his program exists.
